Vanessa Farley was blessed to be born and raised in Camden, NJ. She was educated in the Camden Public School system, active in the arts, the church and the community. Vanessa is a wife, an electrical engineer, a mother of a daughter and a set of triplets, and still finds the time to do what she loves - singing and performing. Her love for music began as a small child. She would entertain herself daily by listening to 8-track tapes of The Spinners, The Stylistics, Blue Magic, Al Green, Enchantment and The Delfonics, to name a few. She later developed a love and appreciation for the musicianship and artistry of the great Michael Jackson, and her number one artist of all time, her famous cousin Phyllis Hyman. Phyllis mentored and supported her as she began singing, dancing and acting under the tutelage of the late Yvonne Kersey, Ben White, Jr. and Vera “Candy” Mayfield-Brahn. Vanessa went on to perform lead roles in numerous productions in the city of Camden. As a member and a lead vocalist of the Camden County Community Gospel Choir for ten years under the direction of J. Teddy Johnson, Jr., she met and married her very own musician, William Y. Farley, Jr. They have been performing together for twenty-four years in gospel concerts, plays, recordings and musical tributes to Phyllis. Vanessa has recorded lead and background vocals on many projects, including “Shine” and “It’s Christmas Time,” and with NUDAUN, a female contemporary gospel ensemble on the “Sharing His Love” project, all under the auspices of Yergy Music & Productions. She has also performed with Phyllis’ former band members, Terry Burrus, Ron Richardson and Kyle Hicks. In late 2016, Vanessa teamed with legendary producer and arranger Butch Ingram to record this, her debut album. A mixture of some of her favorite classic soul songs and Ingram-penned originals, “One Last Memory” showcases Farley’s prodigious vocal gifts, proving once again, that sometimes it indeed does run in the family.
